Irwin is a barrister of Middle Temple, United Kingdom in 2004 and was admitted to practice in Malaysia as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2006. Guat Hong was admitted to practice in Malaysia in 2006. She graduated with a First Class Honours in law from the University of London and was the recipient of the Tun Hamid Omar Foundation prize for graduating top of her class in the Certificate of Legal Practice examinations. She subsequently continued her studies at Cambridge University as a Shell-Cambridge Centenary scholar where she obtained her Master in Law, specialising in Corporate and Commercial law.
